i might be buying a new kit. there is one up for sale 2nd hand thats 6-ply or i would wait and special order. my current kit is 4-ply maple with 4-ply support hoops but i wonder what 6-ply would sound like? and whether there would be that much difference?
the reason i went for 4-ply in the first place was that people said the thinner the shell the more the shell vibrates and the more tone you get. my 4-ply has lots of tone but sometimes sounds a little thin....
will 6-ply be less resonant? louder?
also been thinking about rack tom depths - i currently have 10x8 and 12x9 - the 2nd hand kit had 10x9 and 12x9....
althought people like vinnie use 10x7 and 12x8 - doesnt that mean less sound?

Not less sound, more of a defined/tighter sound, speaks alittle better.
As to the shells, the thicker the shell, the beefer the tone. think Steve Smith
Less overtone in a thinker shell.

yeah i get my drums trade tho....one popped up 2nd hand in the right colour and almost right sizes...22x18, 8x8, 10x9, 12x9, 14x14
i would have ordered 22x16 instead and added a 16x16 instead of the 8x8 but other than that its correct. i can always sell the 8 i guess.
just not sure about the 10x9 and whether i shud wait and custom order.
will the difference between a 22x18 and 22x16 be that apparant?
